Hello.
I love to investigate the story hidden behind data, and am looking for opportunities to apply my analytical skills and critical thinking to solve important issues. I like variation and thrive for constant improvement through self-learning. To my curiosity and sense of initiative, add experience in project management/leadership as well as good communication skills, and you get a qualified person that will constitutes a real asset to any team.
My Skills.
Quantitative modelling, data analysis and programing
Quantitative modelling: simulation of a fishery to evaluate the effect of different fishing scenarios on the evolution of exploited stocks:
Handling and analysis of big dataset: time series analysis of biological data sampled over 80 years, using R:
- Study of adaptive changes in herring reproductive investment, using generalised linear models.
- Study of adaptive changes in herring reproductive growth , using linear mixed-effect models (Thesis chapter, published soon).
- Study of the selective pressures experienced by the herring population over 80 years (Thesis chapter).
- Study of variation in energy allocated to growth and reproduction (Unpublished, sample code available).
R and Matlab, strong (see examples above).
Python, intermediate:
- Example: Computer templates and inventory manager. My companion builds and sells computers from second hand parts. I built this program so that he can keep track of his templates, inventory and finances (more at my GithHub ).
HTML, CSS and SQL, basic:
- Example: this page.
Communication
Experience in structuring and explaining complex concepts in a simple way, written and oral:
- PhD thesis , described as "well structured and easy to follow" by the evaluation committee.
- Extensive experience presenting my work to large audiences, both oral and written.
Experienced in the creation of designs and graphs for data visualisation:
- Illustrations for scientific papers, made with Inkscape : Map from PhD thesis , data and model comparison from a scientific paper.
- Example of poster presented to the Hjort Symposium in 2019.
- Illustrations and designs: this website, Seascape , icons and logos from my inventory manager.
Languages:
- French, mother tongue.
- English, fluent (written and oral).
- Norwegian, B1 (written and oral). Able to watch the news and read books.
- Spanish, basic.
Leadership and Project management
Project and group management:
- Scientist: I managed several research projects to publish and deliver my thesis within my funding duration.
- Vice-leader of BSI Dans: I coordinated the projects of the different board members and ensured deadlines were met.
- Leader of the ballroom group in BSI Dans: I prepared and led meetings related to the planning of the semester.
- Responsible of communication in BSI Danss: I managed the social media accounts and website, and was the contact point for our partners during the covid-19 pandemy.
Supervision and teaching:
- Dance teacher: 5 years of experience in giving group lessons from the beginner to advanced level. I also supervised the new teachers and coached couples who wanted to compete through private lessons.
Team work:
- Scientist: I collaborated with other PhD students on their own research projects.
- Dance teacher: I prepared dance classes together with my teaching partner.
- Scientist and board member: I discussed ideas, problems and solutions with my colleagues to reach a final decision on an issue.
Other transferable skills
Problem solving: define relevant issues and design protocols to find and implement solutions.
- Scientist: I designed and conducted protocols to analyse data for my research.
- Dance teacher: I created teaching curriculums and protocols for class preparation .
Critical thinking: evaluate arguments and analyze information to come to my own conclusions.
- Scientist: I regularly assess scientific articles to identify their scope and limitations.
Learning abilities: comprehend new material/tool/subject quickly with limited supervision.
- Scientist: I wrote my PhD on a subject I only studied for 2 weeks during my Master.
- Scientist: With one week to prepare, I gave a 45 min lecture about a subject I did not study before as part of my PhD evaluation.
- Scientist: I researched and learned advanced statistic and modelling tools I never used before in order to answer scientific questions.
- I programmed an inventory manager in 1.5 weeks, only 2 weeks after starting learning python by myself.
- I created this webpage after only a few days learning html and CSS by myself.
